So, 10 years ago this month, I was in the hospital having my 3rd child. At that time we had at home a 2 and 4 year old, and viewed the 2 day stay in the hospital as a getaway- uninterrupted conversation, people dropping by take-out from our favorite restaurants...crazy I know. And one thing that stands out about this particular maternity stay is that my husband's choice of reading material (and consequently the topic of our late night newborn chats) in the hospital was "The Maker's Diet" by Jordan Rubin. This introduced us to the idea of REAL food and probiotics.
It was the beginning of a food and health revolution for our family. Despite the fact that I seem to find a way to sneak bread and sugar into my own diet, in my house we stick to pretty healthy stuff. My children were recently stumped playing a round of a board game at a birthday party when the prompt was to name foods that are served at McDonald's (which they've never eaten). Our version of "Magic Shell" on ice cream is coconut oil mixed with chocolate chips. Their friends dread any meal at our house that includes ketchup being out because we don't have "real ketchup" ;) You get the idea.
Another thing that was revolutionary to us was the idea of a "probiotic". We were unsure...a little nervous at first if it was safe. We had never heard of it. And then we tried it. And we noticed a HUGE difference in so many ways. My children have also been on probiotics since they were very young, before it was becoming more mainstream and acceptable to do so. I use to tell people that I would empty the capsules into baby food and would be met with shock and concern...what was this strange thing I was giving my children?
So- maybe you've seen these Plexus posts about probiotics. Maybe you have no idea what a probiotic is. Do you wonder if you need one? Maybe you aren't overweight and have no "tummy issues". Why would you need to take a probiotic? Male/female, skinny/overweight, young/old...YOU can benefit from a daily probiotic.
I am a visual learner. Had my textbooks growing up been entirely in info graphic, I think I'd be a heck of a lot smarter. So keep scrolling...let's try and discover exactly what a "probiotic" is:
